Overview of Contest:
The purpose of this Essay Contest is to allow creative minds and brilliant students the platform to capture the meaning of the 40th MN Hmong New Year THEME: Passing the Torch. Each writer must stitch all three—the past, the present, and the future—into one coherent, compelling, and beautiful tapestry that serves as a catalyst for uniting Hmong people.
The Past (yesterday):
The torch can be things that come to mind—such as notable leaders, watershed moments, celebrations, school, work, fashion, music—when reminiscing about the time from 1979 to 1999.
The Present (today):
The torch might include important milestones in education, in business, in political participation, advancement in gender equality and leadership roles, changes in Hmong social mores; inroads into mainstream sports and entertainments fields; and anything else that goes to show Hmong, as a community, has come a long way—from 2000 to 2018.
The Future (tomorrow):
Submissions can shine the spotlight on preparations and the possibilities that await our community in the realms of education, business, science, mainstream sports and entertainments, and public services—calling special attention to current aspirants, the younger generations, and our children.
